Dear Friends of the Broughton Nature Preserves (BNP),

We had two great restoration workdays last week.  On Thursday, it was sunny and almost sixty degrees.  On Saturday I found my first blooming plant on the pond’s edge–Azure bluet (Houstonia caerulea)!  First bloom on January 19th!

We will continue to work around the upper pond at the BNP.  Let’s meet at the top of hill behind the GWB Complex #3 (directions below).

Thursday 1-4PM and Saturday 1-4PM.

Dress for the weather–especially good boots as it will be muddy in places.

We will provide the tools, gloves and good company (and snacks).

Questions, call (224.545.1604) or e-mail me.   Mark Krivchenia

Directions to GWB Complex #3:

  1. Enter the GWB Complex #3 off State Route 821.  It is the complex nearest the entrance/exit off of Interstate 77.
  2. Go up the hill to the first set of buildings.  Turn left.
  3. Proceed all the way to the end of these buildings.  Before you head down to the pond, turn right, and go all the way up the hill.  The road will take you past all of the buildings.  The road up the hill is a gravel road.
  4. Parking is on top of this hill.
