Restoration Workdays July 5, 6 & 7

Dear Friends of the Broughton Nature Preserve,

Three chances to get outside and connect with nature this week!

  1. Friday, 9-11AM:  Meet at the Butterfly/Pollinator Habitat at the Broughton Nature Preserve.  We will be removing some invasive plants from the pollinator habitat.  (See directions below.)   Some nice plants are blooming, but we still need to control some invasives (teasel, Chinese silver grass, and a few others.)
  1. Mountwood Park (Wood County).  Saturday, 9AM-NoonSee attached flyer. We are working with our friends at Mountwood to control invasive autumn olive along the trails.  If you haven’t been to Mountwood, it is a gem of a place.  Bring a lunch and we can picnic after the workday!
  1. Sunday, 1-4PM at Broughton Nature Preserve (GWB Complex #1–directions below).  We will continue to remove invasives along the Blue Trail.

We will be working in mostly the shaded (cooler) areas of the woods.  It is 10 degrees cooler in the woods!  We have now cleared almost 1/2 mile along this trail.  It is looking very good!

Dress for outdoor work:  long pants, long sleeve shirts, study shoes.  We will provide tools, gloves and snacks–and good company.

Cheers!

  5. Once you cross the creek, turn right and go as far down as possible.  Park near the YMCA’s furthest building.
  6. We meet at the trailhead of the Blue Trail.
