The Devola Multi-Use Trail Committee is sponsoring a bicycle safety event as part of the activities to take place at the Social sponsored by the Devola Volunteer Fire Company. The bicycle safety event will take place on October 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth Sugden Broughton Community Building located on State Route 821 just 0.5 miles east of Route 60. Hours for the Social are 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Safety supplies will be provided free of charge to those in attendance including children’s bicycle helmets bells, horns, and signaling devices that are important for bicycle safety. Safe riding rules and practice obstacle course instruction will follow the guide for “Bike Rodeos,” developed by Cornell University. Each owner of a bicycle presented for a safety inspection will be provided with a check list of safety features and any needed improvements.

The bicycle safety event is supported primarily through a grant from the Sisters Health Foundation of Parkersburg, WV.
